Amsco Quantum Surgical Lighting System
Driven by customer concerns.
We asked surgeons and OR staffs
around the world what they needed - what
was missing - in their lighting systems.
We transformed that information into
the design of Quantum. Quantum is the
user's ideal surgical lighting system.
Designed with advanced technology.
The concept behind the Quantum
light was shaped by analyzing your requirements
for illumination inside the
surgical cavity. Using the world's only
three-dimensional optical software, we
designed a revolutionary and patented
optical system that combines an advanced
refractive lens with a large, continuous
reflector and innovative single-lamp
technology. The result is a surgical light
that delivers optimal illumination both on
the skin surface and deep within the
surgical cavity.
Maximum surgical versatility.
Quantum is the only surgical light
today that combines the flexibility and
positioning ease of a small diameter
lighthead with the superb optical performance
of a large diameter lighthead. It's a
high-powered, easy-lighting
system designed for peak performance for
every size and range of surgical procedure.
That means enormous versatility in your
operating room.
Quantum technology means
focusability.
Your inability to focus or drive light
deep down into hard-to-illuminate surgical
cavities is over. Quantum's revolutionary
patented optical system provides superior
focusability via a "cylinder of light"
concept.
The new Quantum delivers to the surgical site a large pre-focused beam of continuous illumination. The overall depth of field is 26 inches. Within the pre-focused beam, you are provided with an extraordinary new feature in surgical lighting - the "cylinder of light." This 18" area located within the depth of field offers high levels of bright, consistent illumination and constant pattern definition throughout. The surgical team has high quality, intense illumination both on the incision surface and deep into the body cavity. Now even the most demanding surgical procedures can be completely illuminated without the need for mechanical focusing.
Quantum technology means superb
shadow control and cavity illumination.
A single light source paired with a
large, continuous reflector and revolutionary
refractive lens delivers superior
shadow control and cavity illumination.
Quantum's design promotes excellent
shadow control and cavity illumination by
offering a large area of continuous light-emitting
surface when compared to other
surgical lighting systems which utilize a
multiple lamp, reflector and lens technology.
With the Quantum, the surgical site
is accurately and precisely covered in
bright, focused illumination.
Quantum
gives the surgeon control.
Quantum is the only surgical light with a fixed optical system that also permits
the surgeon to control pattern size and illumination intensity. The surgeon now
has the ability to match the proper pattern sizes and brightness levels to meet
their individual illumination requirements.
For example, if a surgeon is doing surface level work or a shallow cavity procedure which does not require a great deal of intensity, the sterile handle may be rotated to obtain a smaller pattern with a soft, feathered ridge and decreased intensity. This approach provides sufficient light while minimizing potential for excessive reflective glare. Conversely, if a surgeon is working with a large incision and a deep cavity, the sterile handle may be rotated to form a larger pattern, which offers a sharply defined edge, a large depth of field, a full 18" "cylinder of light" and peak intensity.
Optimal brightness without glare.
Quantum offers adjustable
intensity levels up to 10,000 footcandles
or 107,600 lux. The surgeon
controlled vertical linear iris adjusts
the amount and concentration of light
delivered to ensure optimal brightness
without glare.
Cool illumination.
Quantum's specially formulated
optical coatings remove 98% of all
unwanted heat from the operative site
This important feature provides a cool
working environment for the surgical
team while enhancing patient care by
preventing the drying of delicate tissue
Quantum renders natural color.
Natural color rendition of operative
tissue is critical for the surgical
team. Quantum's illumination provides
color correction to 4200° Kelvin,
a color temperature preferred by
surgeons worldwide. In addition, the
Quantum carries a high color rendering
index of 92. Thus, skin and
operative tissue appear in a natural
state without distortion.
Quantum moves to where it's
needed, then stays there.
The Quantum suspension system
continuously rotates 360 degrees at all
critical joints with no dead spots.
Maneuvering and aiming the lighthead
is easy. Flexibility is exceptional. The
lighthead can be lowered a full 90
degrees within 29 1/2" from the finished
floor for excellent low lateral illumination.
And an advanced brake design
provides continuous supporting pressure
at all rotation points for drift-
performance.
Continuous light.
Only Quantum has automatic
lamp changeover that provides 100%
optical performance in the event of
lamp failure. Quantum uses two lamps
within the optical core. If the primary
lamp fails during a surgical procedure,
the secondary lamp automatically
illuminates and assumes the primary
position in less than a second. Two
small LED indicators, located on
separate sides of the lighthead, softly
flash to remind you it is time to
change the expired lamp at your
convenience.
Wall-mounted controls.
A simple-to-use, wall-mounted
control with an on/off/intensity
rheostat allows adjustment of each
lighthead. An LED display at each
on /off knob confirms power to the
fixture. Intensity may be adjusted at
five discreet settings.
The Quantum Surgical Light possesses unique characteristics that enable it to be the light of choice for surgical teams. Optimal illumination is superbly delivered by the patented optical system. It is truly a composition of simplicity, elegance and superior technology.
The lens. The eye of the revolution.
Quantum's incredibly advanced
refractive lens system is a landmark in
surgical illumination technology. The lens
system is a composite of 6,448 individual
lenses, each having its own optical prescription
which accurately and precisely directs light into the surgical wound.
The overall lens is comprised of eight identical segments, each with 806 miniature lenses. These lenses are grouped into zones to project light both vertically and horizontally into the depth of field and cylinder of light. The result is excellent shadow control and cavity illumination.
The exterior is smooth to allow easy cleaning. Since the optical core is sealed, dust does not settle inside the lens.
Quantum aesthetics.
A new look and feel.
Quantum's aerodynamic design
enhances the high-tech look of the surgical
suite of tomorrow. But Quantum offers
more than pleasing aesthetics. The built-in,
non-grasping surfaces allow the
circulating nurse to quickly and easily
position the lighthead. The tough,
molded-plastic, lower protective rim and
the special, non-chipping powder paint
process on the metal components result in
a highly durable finish. The entire
lighthead is quickly and easily cleaned.
New lamp source.
The new tungsten halogen lamp
provides high intensity light and has an
average life expectancy of more than
1,000 hours.
Large continuous reflector.
Used in combination with the single
lamp source, the reflector performs three
functions:
"Hot" mirror.
Before light passes from the reflector
through the lens, a specially coated "hot"
mirror bounces residual infrared energy or
heat back to the large continuous reflector,
which diverts the heat through the top of
the lighthead, resulting in cool illumination.
Vertical linear iris.
The vertical linear iris functions like
a camera aperture, adjusting the overall
pattern size and amount of light delivered to
the surgical site. This unique feature allows
the surgeon to personally tailor illumination
to suit individual requirements.
Reliability and durability.
Electrostatically painted lightheads
and suspension components
will not chip. Exceptionally durable
plastic lower rim with non-sterile
handles protects the lighthead in the
event of a collision.
Thorough testing and evaluation ensures years of reliable performance. A modular design process ensures easy service access in the event it's ever needed.
New sterile handle design.Non-sterile grasping surface.
Four non-sterile surfaces
integral to the lighthead allow the
circulating nurse to position Quantum
from a non-sterile area. Sleek,
built-in design facilitates "nesting" of lightheads.
Easy to install.
Quantum is a modular system
designed for easy and economical
installation. Changeover and adaptation
can be handled quickly, allowing
complete installation after normal
working hours.
Flexible expansion arrangements.
The Quantum lighting system
is designed with a "building block"
approach to adapt to your current
lighting requirements and to meet
future expansion needs. Choices
include single hub, dual hub, triple
hub and optional AV arms and
hub spacers.
